Water solutions are essential for improving the quality of water. Aside from eliminating bacteria, chemical pollutants, and other toxic substances, which is its primary role, water treatment also solves nuisance problems like odors and hardness. Thanks to plumbing services as those ensure that clean and safe water is accessible to residential areas.

However, knowing the quality of water supply first is a must among residents before considering water solutions as the only viable choices.

Simple observation helps households identify the root cause of why their water smells like rotten eggs or the adverse effects of the magnesium-calcium deposit. Are you concerned with water-borne microbes and contaminants in your water system? Go for laboratory tests. Repairing or replacing damaged parts of the existing water system or treating the home water supply is usually done to solve any undesirable qualities found in the water.

If eliminating sources of contamination or installing a new private well still do not work, purchasing a Florida water treatment system is the last option you may opt to select.

Choosing and deciding what treatment device to avail requires knowledge and understanding as well. Keep reading this article to know more about them!

Disinfection

The presence of harmful bacteria, viruses, cysts and worms in the water supply poses a threat to you and your loved ones. Eliminating them takes disinfection. Disinfecting methods varied from chlorination, pasteurization, ultraviolet light, and boiling.

Considered the most common way of disinfecting water, the old, cheap chlorination process kills most bacteria and viruses with proper concentration and exposure time. Pasteurization, on the other hand, does lots of disinfection greater than its price by eliminating bacteria, viruses, cysts, and worms using heat.

Ultraviolet light, which is emitted by low-pressure mercury arc lamps, deactivates pathogens with its germicidal properties. Yet, UV lights had downsides as radiation can only kill bacteria and needs replacement yearly.

In just three minutes, residents can kill disease-causing organisms and giardia cysts by boiling. Yet, boiled water tastes flat with the dispersal of carbon dioxide (CO2).

Reverse osmosis

In an estimate, reverse osmosis (RO) removes 90 percent of impurities, such as mineral and biological contaminants, by pressurizing and passing water through a semi-permeable membrane. This water solution also reduces some organic compounds and is effective in removing substantial amounts of salts, metals, minerals, and other inorganic chemicals alongside microorganisms and many organic chemicals.

RO units are often used with mechanical filters and activated carbon filters. Dirt, sediment, and other impurities clogging the RO membrane are removed via the mechanical filter, while activated carbon filters eliminate some organic compounds, excluding nitrates that usually pass through.

As RO typically use large amounts of water, it is not advisable for households with limited water supply to avail this water treatment system aside from the high price and regular maintenance.

Neutralizing filters

The high acidic level of water damages or corrodes the plumbing system and is a risk to human health at the same time. Drinking water contaminated with copper, which dissolves right off the pipes due to acidity, can lead to kidney or liver damage.

Treating acidic water comes easy by purchasing neutralizing filters capable of leaching lead, copper, and other toxic metals in household pipes by filtering the whole home water supply with limestone chips or other neutralizing agents. However, usage of filters can increase water hardness and intensify any iron problems in the water supply, while its limestone chips also need occasional replacement.
